WARNING: these brownies spontaneously combust (or something) because they seem to disappear as soon as they come out of the oven!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz semi sweet chocolate (we like Godiva)
  • 12 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 bag wrapped caramel candy
  • flaked sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a square baking pan (like this) with parchment.
  2. Melt half of the chocolate chips in the microwave using 15 second intervals until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  3. In a stand mixer with paddle attachment, mix butter and sugar and then add eggs and vanilla. Mix on med-low for about 2 minutes.
  4. Fold in the melted (semi-cooled) chocolate. Sift in cocoa powder, salt and flour. Fold ingredients together until they just combine. Don’t work the batter too much or they’ll be cakey.
  5. Fold in the rest of the chocolate chips and add patter to baking pan.
  6. While the brownies are baking, unwrap the caramels and place in a microwave save bowl. This should seem obvious but my son thought he could just throw in the candy and then pick out the wrappers ?. Microwave in 20 second intervals until melted and keep warm (and melty).
  7. Bake for 17-20 minutes and allow to cool slightly. I use a cake tester to test the fudgy level. Drizzle with caramel and sprinkle with sea salt (if desired).
